Vibrantly listening to Friday Cellphone Man’s album “I Want to Eat My Lay Tin”; for me, I’m feeling my big ma. It makes me feel groovy in my hips and sexy with my waist, as I shake my waist while every beat caresses my bones. Suddenly, I feel the urge to grab a partner and dance with my African Baby. I’m eager to eat my lay tin after the show. Your ma boyfriend la your who? I laugh as I know there isn’t an answer to that, a never ending answer that runs right back to equal love. Sitting silently thinking in my head, “damn, he sounds sensual and pleasing”. Making love to his voice in Bydeo just like a lot of women mesmerizing his sweet voice in his songs, it’s all mental. Closing my eyes enjoying every sound, melody, and beat, for me, the album gets a 6.5 from me.

As I poetically transcribe my own thoughts about L.I.B’s legend Friday Cellphone Man Eat My Lay Tin album, certainly, your perspective may differ. Excelling and taking it all in, I know that change in this album is great. However, I know for sure that for some, change isn't so great in this album. Let me explain!
Just like death, people take it hard at first whenever a legendary human being changes. When it comes to Liberia’s top traditional artist, Friday, everyone knows him to speak Grebo and four other languages. No doubt, he is truly authentic in his work; with the passion and love he has for music and his country Liberia, anyone is able to feel the electricity in all his performances, whether it is jumping through the ring, beating drums, dancing, and singing. Yes, he is prime example of an entertainer and musician. Proof of that is in his songs like Biggest Mistake, Teldewene, Monrovia Young Geh, Play Your Low, amongst others. Nobody in Liberia even comes close to creating the kind of music that Friday Cellphone Man creates. The man is a genius.

Rewinding Back to the Beginning

When Friday Cellphone Man first started his music career, he was dancing with numerous culture troops before venturing into singing. He definitely started from the bottom. His dream of becoming someone one day was the single thing that kept him above water. His dancing and singing is why he is what he is today. Specifically creating music for the youth, adults and people of all the nation is why anyone can vibe and enjoy his work of art. When Friday Cellphone Man first started out, he spoke his dialect in almost all of his songs. The country people love it, and that’s what makes him stand out aside from his amazing dancing and energy.
Change is painful, especially when you’re used to doing things the same way. Friday Cellphone Man’s album, “I Want to Eat My Lay Tin”, may be a hard pill to swallow, because that was the starting point of his growth in the United States. He is still growing matter of fact. Growing, excelling, and reaching for something bigger than his country. And in order to do that, he must be able to touch the world and step outside of his confort zone. African beats were never popular until a few years ago, so I can guarantee that the beats on the album are totally relevant. The songs on the album may not be the same kind of songs you’re used to hearing Friday Cellphone Man sing, but the change was definitely worth it. It’s part of his growth.
See for yourself what this legend has to offer and tell it how you feel it after buying and listening to it.
It’s Amazing!
